Discovery Hall Programs

Discovery Hall Programs (DHP) hosts classes, field trips, and summer programs for K-12 students and educators. The hands-on learning programs promote conservation to increase public awareness and understanding of our ocean.

Academic Year Classes

Discovery Hall Programs leads the K-12 Field Classes at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Each class is designed to meet the Alabama Course of Study Standards in Science for each age group of students with a variety of field trips, labs, and discussions. These programs are available from September through May and are by reservation only.

STEM Programs

STEM education has become increasingly important as Alabama looks to the future. While still offering a robust program of student classes, camps, competitions, and workshops focusing on ROVs, remotely operated vehicles, DHP has expanded its ROV program to include other STEM classes and activities.

Residential Marine Science Class

The Residential Marine Science Class is an immersive 4-week academic class that introduces high school students to the field of marine science. The course gives students a better understanding and appreciation of the various disciplines in marine biology and oceanography.

Summer Camps

The Discovery Hall Programs offer a variety of programs for all ages during the summer, ranging from single-day programs to residential camps and academic courses.

There are also resources developed by DISL faculty for use in any teaching environment. These resources include posters, lesson plans, and games.

Expanded Programs

Discovery Hall Programs (DHP) provides a variety of opportunities throughout the year for everyone to learn about our ocean and expand their understanding.
